Every Aroma Has a Purpose

Fragrance is more than simply a pleasant scent.

For me, it is part of the experience of using a product.

Whether it is a skincare product or a hand-poured soy candle, fragrance has the ability to create atmosphere, evoke memories and make everyday moments feel a little more special.

At Skin Century, every fragrance is chosen with the same care and thought as every botanical ingredient.

Essential Oils & Fragrance Oils

One of the questions I am often asked is:

“What is the difference between an essential oil and a fragrance oil?”

Essential oils are highly concentrated botanical extracts obtained from plants through methods such as steam distillation or cold pressing.

Fragrance oils are carefully created aromatic blends designed to produce specific scents that may not be possible using essential oils alone.

Both have their own place within formulation, and each is selected according to the purpose of the finished product.

Why I Use Both

At Skin Century, I believe that every ingredient should have a purpose.

Sometimes an essential oil is the perfect choice because of its beautiful natural botanical aroma.

At other times, a carefully selected fragrance allows me to create a scent experience that complements a candle or product in a way that essential oils alone cannot.

The choice is never about one being better than the other.

It is about selecting the most appropriate ingredient for the formulation.

Fragrance is deeply personal.

A scent that reminds one person of a peaceful garden may remind another of a favourite memory or a special place.

One of the things I enjoy most about creating products is knowing that fragrance has the ability to make everyday moments feel just a little more meaningful.

For me, fragrance should never overpower a product. It should quietly complement the ingredients around it, allowing every element of the formulation to work together in harmony.
