Understanding Preservation Systems

Not every product requires a preservation system

One of the questions people often ask is:

“Do all Skin Century products contain preservatives?”

The answer is no.

Products that contain water require an appropriate preservation system because water creates an environment where bacteria, yeast and mould can grow.

However, products that are made entirely without water, such as certain body butters, balms and oil-based formulations, do not require the same type of preservation system.

Examples include:

• Whipped Cocoa Butter
• Whipped Castor Oil Butter
• Future anhydrous balms and body butters

Although these formulations do not contain added water, they should still be used with clean, dry hands and stored carefully to help maintain their quality.

🌿 Caring for water-free products

Water-free formulations are wonderfully simple, but they still benefit from good care.

To help keep your product in its best condition:

• Use clean, dry hands or a clean spatula.
• Avoid introducing water into the container during use.
• Replace the lid after each use.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from excessive heat and moisture.

Taking these simple steps helps protect the product and maintain its quality throughout its intended life.
